An old man told his grandson
"My son there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealous, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth."
The  boy thought about it, and asked
"Grandfather, which wolf wins?"
The old man replied quietly,
"The one you feed."

Why Animas?

Picture
I chose Animas high school because I value student teacher connections, the ability to express myself and my style without being immediately shut down, and I value support being available whenever needed. At my old high school even though you were encouraged to talk to your teachers; it was impossible to talk about anything personal without an entire class listening in. Then word would spread to the entire school. So suddenly instead of just your teacher knowing something personal, it was the entire school. Another issue was that if you were struggling one day, the teachers didn’t seem to care or even pay attention. A huge issue at my school was expression. If you wore something that wasn’t popular or that didn’t fit in with the rest of what everyone else was wearing then you would be scorned. People stopped hanging out with you. You were left to eat lunch alone. If anyone tried to join you or invite you to eat lunch with them, then they were left alone as well. The mindset at my old school was every person for themself with no means to help or support others, no matter what. No matter what people were going through no one would help and you had to handle it on your own. I had old friends who moved here and they loved it here. When I heard about the great times they had with their friends, and the support that was available if they needed it, I knew that I had to go.
